Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCIs) are revolutionizing gaming and entertainment, enabling users to control devices with their minds. Despite challenges such as difficulty in use and fatigue, the BCI market is expected to grow from $1.4 billion in 2020 to $5.5 billion by 2025. Advances in neurotechnology, including functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) and electrocorticography (ECoG), are driving growth in the industry. However, ethical concerns surrounding informed consent, equity and access, bias and stereotypes, identity and selfhood, human enhancement, and dignity and autonomy must be addressed. As BCIs become more prevalent, it is crucial to ensure that they promote human well-being and dignity, rather than compromising individual autonomy or exacerbating social inequalities.
