Türkiye has unveiled its first domestically developed quantum computer, the culmination of 14 years of research by TOBB University of Economics and Technology in Ankara. The computer was launched during a ceremony attended by Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Defense Industry Agency head Haluk Görgün, and other sector representatives. This breakthrough is expected to advance Türkiye's capabilities in information processing technologies and drive innovation across multiple sectors, including cryptography, artificial intelligence, defense technology, climate modeling, and advanced material science. According to Yılmaz, this achievement demonstrates the country's determination to become a producer and shaper of technology, rather than just a consumer. The project aims to ensure technological independence while bolstering security by preventing the sharing of critical software abroad. TOBB, a large civil society organization representing small and medium-sized enterprises and entrepreneurs, has played a central role in fostering this initiative.
